George Mason was able to get past Towson on Sunday as Cam Long hit three 3-pointers in the final 10 minutes as the Patriots pulled away to win 56-48. VCU has played in five previous CAA title games, winning three times, the last of which came in 2007 against George Mason. VCU is led by Eric Maynor, the conference Player of the Year the last two seasons. He had 23 points in Virginia Commonwealth’s 61-53 semifinal win over Old Dominion.
The two teams met earlier this season and VCU came away with a 76-71 victory. Maynor led all scorers with 28 points in that game and he had help as Larry Sanders, Kirill Pishchalnikov and Brandon Rozzell all scored in double-digits. George Mason was led by Long’s 24 points while Dre Smith added 16.
