Two of the best teams in the National League match up in Philadelphia on Tuesday as the Phillies (59-44) host the Colorado Rockies (58-47) at 7:05 PM EST. The Rockies have won four straight on the road and are very much in the Wild Card race while the Phillies are starting to pull away in the National League East. Philadelphia won 14 of 17 at home in the month of July as they averaged 6.9 runs per game. The Phillies did not play that well on the road last week though as they went 3-4 including a 7-3 loss on Sunday. SBG Global Sportsbook reports that the early baseball wagering odds sees the public taking the Phillies at home as a -138 favorite with a total 10 over -120.
Jamie Moyer gets the start for the Phillies on Tuesday. He is 10-7 on the season with a 5.32 ERA. He has pitched better of late, going 6-1 with a 3.51 ERA in his last seven starts. In his last start against Colorado, Moyer got the win but he has not pitched well in his career against the Rockies with an ERA that is over five.
The Rockies swept the Red over the weekend, improving to 3-4 on their long road trip. The win on Sunday was a 6-4 win in extra innings. "That was a great game to grind that out in the manner in which we did," Rockies manager Jim Tracy said. "We win that game because of several little things that we pride ourselves in."
The Rockies go with Jason Hammel on Tuesday. He is 5-6 with a 4.66 ERA this season. He did not pitch well in his last outing, giving up five runs and seven hits in only an inning and a third against the Mets. Colorado has not won at Philadelphia since September of 2007.

Matt Holliday faces his former team for the first time as the Oakland Athletics (31-40) host the Colorado Rockies (37-35) tonight at 10:05 PM EST. It was expected that Holliday’s addition would upgrade the A’s offense and that the Rockies would struggle but that has not been the case. Holliday has been poor for the A’s while Huston Street has been a great closer for the Rockies. SBG Global Sportsbook reports that early Sports Wagering action sees the public taking the Athletics at home as a -138 favorite with a total 8.5 under -115.
Holliday is batting .269 with eight homers and 39 RBIs in his first 70 games with the A’s. He has been pathetic of late, hitting .197 (12 for 61) with no homers, two RBIs and 11 strikeouts over his last 17 games. He has said that there is no added pressure of facing his former team on Friday. "It’s just another game," Holliday said, "It’ll be good to see the guys."
The Rockies have done just fine without Holliday in the lineup. After manager Clint Hurdle was fired they took off with Jim Tracy in charge. "I think we have a good read of where the club is right now," Tracy said, "We have a good club and we know it, we just have to get through this road trip with a winning record. That is our goal."
Colorado may be able to have some success against an Oakland team that has scored three or fewer runs in eight of its last 15 games. The A’s are 5-10 in those games. Oakland sends Brett Anderson to the mound on Friday. He is 3-7 with a 5.74 ERA this season.
Jason Hammel gets the start for Colorado on Friday. He is 4-3 with a 4.41 ERA. He was 2-0 with a 2.35 ERA in four relief appearances against Oakland last season.
