andy pettitteFor the first time since 2003, the World Series wagering will be going at least six games as the Phillies and Yankees head back to New York with the Yankees holding a 3-2 series lead. The Phillies were able to power their way to an 8-6 win in Game 5 on Monday and now will try and force a Game 7 on Thursday. The last time a World Series went seven games was in 2002 when the Angels beat the Giants. New York is a -200 wagering odds favorite with a total of 9 at SBG Global. Watch the game live on FOX at 7:57pm ET!

Andy Pettitte gets the start for New York on three days’ rest while the Phillies turn to Pedro Martinez. "Definitely what we expected," said Ryan Madson, "When we split in New York, they were saying, ‘Did you think you were going to go 2-0?’ We knew it was going to be a tough series going in — evenly matched teams in different ways. We’re planning on going seven games. That’s obviously the goal, and that’s the goal for any kid growing up — to go seven games in a World Series."

Martinez allowed three runs in six innings in a 3-1 loss to the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium in Game 2. He will be pitching on five days’ rest, while Pettitte will be pitching on three days’ rest.

alcs 2009 wageringIt’s been a while since the New York Yankees made a World Series and you need to go back nine years since they captured one, but the sports betting public is having a difficult time seeing anyone beating them this year.

The Yankees were dominant in the regular season (103-59 record) and continued that pace to start the 2009 post-season, sweeping the Minnesota Twins 3-0 in their American League Divisional Series.

It won’t be a straight path to the World Series however as the Yanks now face the Los Angeles Angels, who were 97-65 in the regular season and also can boast of an ALDS sweep, taking down the Red Sox 3-0.

Online sportsbooks have the Yankees as the odds-on faves to win the World Series at -125, while the Angels are +350 to win it all.

Game 1 of the American League Championship Series goes on Friday and the series price on the Pinstripes is -180 while it is +160 for the Angels.

CC Sabathia will start for the home team Yanks, who are -170 faves in Game 1, and John Lackey will do the same for the Angels, who are +155 with a Total of 8.5.

Wagering Odds Trends:

In the Angels’ last nine visits to Yankee Stadium, there have been 7 Overs and 2 Unders.

The Yanks broke open the bank for Sabathia in the offseason and he has paid dividends. In CC’s last 20 home starts, New York has gone 15-5 straight up and in his last eight home starts; the Bronx Bombers are 8-0.

Sabathia’s last eight home starts have also produced 1 Over and 7 Unders.

Lackey has not been particularly strong in the month of October when it comes to wins and losses. In his last eight outings in that month, the Angels have gone 2-6 SU.

Under bettors have cashed in though, as his last 11 October outings have yielded 1 Over and 10 Unders.

Sabathia is a southpaw and in the Angels’ last 12 games against lefties, they are 10-2 SU and in their last 10 against LHPs, they have posted 1 Over and 9 Unders.

Lackey is a right-hander and the Yanks have been almost as impressive in their last 10 against righties going 8-2 SU with 2 Overs, 7 Unders, and a Push.

The sports betting public has been betting the Yankees and the Under in the early wagering action at online sportsbooks. The Yankees are seeing 75% of the money and the Under is getting 65% so far.

After seeing the Boston Red Sox capture a couple of World Series titles the past few seasons, you know Yankees fans are pining for another championship. We’ll find out if they can keep rolling starting this Friday.

MLB Wagering Odds Giants vs Phillies

cole hamelsThe San Francisco Giants (72-59) have no time for a letdown as they face the Philadelphia Phillies (75-53) on Tuesday at 7:05 PM EST. The Giants swept the Colorado Rockies over the weekend to tie for the Wild Card lead but they can’t take a breath as they open up a 6-game road trip in Philadelphia on Tuesday. SBG Global reports that the early MLB wagering odds action sees the public taking the Phillies at home as a -185 favorite with a total 8.5 flat.

The Giants are facing Philadelphia at the right place since the Phillies are actually better on the road than at home. They go up against Cole Hamels on Tuesday and that might not be bad news either. Hamels has not pitched like he did a year ago. He is 7-8 with a 4.52 ERA this season. He did pitch well last time out against Pittsburgh though but did not get the win. "(Hamels’) velocity was good and he stayed after it the whole eight innings," said manager Charlie Manuel, "When they had runners on base, that’s when he really bore down. He’s getting there." Hamels will be glad to see September since he was 0-3 with a 4.91 ERA in five August starts. He was shelled in San Francisco early last month, allowing seven runs and 10 hits over five innings.

The Giants come into Tuesday’s game off a sweep of Colorado. The Giants have been great at home this season but have struggled on the road. They are just 28-38 on the road this season. Jonathan Sanchez gets the start on Tuesday. He is 6-10 with a 4.27 ERA this season. He has gone 2-0 with a 0.95 ERA in his last three road starts. He is 1-0 with a 4.60 ERA in six appearances against the Phillies.

Take a look at the MLB wagering stats for Tuesday’s game. The Giants are 5-1 in their last 6 overall. The Giants are 8-18 in their last 26 road games vs. a left-handed starter. The Giants are 1-4 in their last 5 road games. The Giants are 3-15 in Sanchez’s last 18 road starts. The Giants are 3-10 in the last 13 meetings in Philadelphia. The Phillies are 5-0 in their last 5 vs. the National League West. The Phillies are 5-1 in their last 6 home games vs. a left-handed starter. The Phillies are 21-8 in their last 29 home games. The Phillies are 1-4 in Hamels’ last 5 starts.

The Over is 5-1-1 in Sanchez’s last 7 starts vs. the National League East. The Under is 4-1 in the Phillies last 5 overall. The Over is 4-0 in Hamels’ last 4 home starts. The Over is 4-1 in Hamels’ last 5 starts vs. the Giants.
