jake delhomme v tony romoTonight at 8:30pm ET two quarterbacks feeling the heat will match up against each other on ESPN’s Monday Night Football wagering as Carolina’s Jake Delhomme and the Panthers visit Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys. Delhomme was terrible in Week 1 while Romo was awful in Week 2. Both will look for much better performances on Monday. SBG Global reports that early Carolina vs Dallas odds sees the public taking the Cowboys at home as -8.5 favorites with a total 48.

Much of the blame for last week’s Dallas loss to the New York Giants fell on Romo as he was just 13-of-29 passes for 127 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. It was the opener of Cowboys Stadium and a game that owner Jerry Jones really wanted to win. Romo got a vote of confidence from Jones this week so he will want to have a big game on Monday to show everyone he is still a top quarterback.

Delhomme bounced back last week a little bit for Carolina in their game against Atlanta but the Panthers still lost. The Panthers were 12-4 last season but if they lose this game they would be 0-3. That hasn’t happened since 1998 for the Panthers and they finished that season 4-12.

Neither defense has played well this season so it could be a high scoring game on Monday night. Dallas could be without one of their top weapons though as running back Marion Barber is doubtful.

Dallas has won seven of the all-time regular season meetings against Carolina. Two years ago the Cowboys won 20-13 at Carolina. The Panthers are 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 games in September. The Panthers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games as a road underdog. The Underdog is 7-2-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings between Carolina and Dallas.

The Cowboys are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games as a favorite. The Cowboys are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games in September. The Cowboys are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 Monday games. The Over is 4-0 in the Panthers last 4 games as a road underdog. The Over is 9-1 in the Panthers last 10 vs. the NFC. The Over is 4-0 in the Cowboys last 4 games overall. The Over is 7-2-1 in the Cowboys last 10 NFL football wagering Monday games. The Over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between the two teams.

brett favreEven the most casual of NFL wagering odds fans will probably have their TV tuned to ESPN tonight for the preseason clash between the Vikings and Texans, if for no other reason than to see the strange sight of quarterback Brett Favre wearing #4 in purple. Favre and his new teammates take another step towards the regular season when they visit Houston as a 3-1/2 point underdog. Most bettors, nearly 80% of them at Sportsbook.com, give the 40-year old QB the edge against the spread.

Minnesota’s newest quarterback played only briefly last week and reports are he will see considerable action on this televised contest. The worldwide leader in sports newest NFL reporter Adam Shefter has reported there is a"schism" in the Vikings locker room concerning what teammates think about the veteran quarterback, compared to those already on hand. Upon further review, those close to the team have found this not to be the case, with a few dissenting voices, but hardly the next Civil War to start in Minnesota.

The Vikings have won and covered both their preseason encounters and will have to settle on a backup quarterback. Sage Rosenfels missed last week with an ankle and Tarvaris Jackson, thought to be the goner when the Wrangler jeans pitchman was signed, took full advantage of the situation, completing 12 of 15 passes against Kansas City for 202 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Sportsbook.com has the Vikings as three-point road underdogs, with a total of 38.5.

Houston hasn’t had the drama seen in the Twin Cities, but there was a many long face after the Texans were blasted by 38-14 by New Orleans as three-point home favorites last week. The Houston defense was scorched for 420 yards by the Saints and some members of the defensive line are on the firing line. In particular, starting defensive tackle Amobi Okoye has come under scrutiny. Now in his third season, the Nigerian hasn’t progressed as some would like to see for the 10th overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. A solid game against a good Minnesota offensive line would help quell dissatisfaction.

Quarterback Matt Schaub leads what should be a potent Houston attack, with numerous weapons like Andre Johnson, Steve Slaton, Owen Daniels and Kevin Walter. The Texans are 6-4 and 4-3-3 ATS playing at home in August football since 2004 and have covered their last three Week 3 assignments.

Minnesota is 24-13-1 ATS in their last 38 underdog roles and 16-5 ATS when they score 22 to 28 points in the preseason. From a situational perspective, the Vikings could be in a hole, since they are 0-7 ATS on the road versus an opponent coming off a double-digit loss.

Monday Night NFL Preseason Wagering Odds Jets vs Ravens

mark sanchezNew York quarterback Mark Sanchez gets his first start as the Jets travel to Baltimore to face the Ravens. Sanchez is trying to win the starting quarterback job in his rookie year and is in a battle with Kellen Clemens. Last week Sanchez looked sharp in a 23-20 loss to the Rams. Baltimore is a 3-point wagering odds favorite with a total of 33 at SBG Global Sportsbook. Watch the game live at 8:00 PM EST live on ESPN.

Some of the attention on Monday will be focused on New York head coach Rex Ryan who is making his return to Baltimore after spending the last 10 years as the Raven’s defensive coordinator. Ryan took a few players away from his former team as linebacker Bart Scott and safety Jim Leonhard are now with the Jets. New York will probably be missing cornerback Darrelle Revis, guard Alan Faneca, tackle Damien Woody and defensive tackle Sione Pohua in this game.

The Ravens didn’t miss Ryan last week as they shutout the Washington Redskins 23-0. The transition from Ryan to Greg Mattison as defensive coordinator has gone great. "This is not Greg’s first time around the block," head coach Jim Harbaugh said. "He’s been a defensive coordinator for years, and that’s showing up. I think the players feel it. If we don’t stop people like we want, [then] that’s going to be on us — players, coaches, all of us together. But I think we’ve done a good job in camp and we have a chance to be a really good defense."

Ryan has said that Monday’s game is important. “I want [the Ravens] to know that my guys are playing like Jets and we’re to be taken seriously," Ryan said. "The fact that I got passed over for the coaching job there … does that mean anything? Maybe it does."

The Baltimore offense also looked good last week as they had 500 yards against the Redskins. Starting quarterback Joe Flacco was very good last week and should get even more time on Monday. His backup is Troy Smith who was solid last week as well. Smith may get a lot of time on Monday since third string quarterback John Beck is hurt. The team did sign Cleo Lemon and Drew Willy but they may not play. The Ravens will are likely to be without wide receiver Mark Clayton and linebacker Terrell Suggs on Monday.

The Jets and Ravens have met five times in the NFL Wagering preseason history with the New York holding a 3-2 edge. The teams last met in 2002 and the Jets pulled out a 16-14 win at Baltimore.
