Looking at the top wagering odds trends and public betting action on the Thursday games.
How’s the old bracket looking so far…if it’s anything like mine, we’re long past the point of trying to save it. Like a few others, I’m staring at Kansas as the Champion…the only problem being that Kansas will be watching the Sweet 16 with the rest of us.
But a beat-up bracket aside, I’m looking forward to sports wagering opportunities as we head into a great Thursday card, as the tournament is wide open right now.
Unfortunately for a number of teams, the injury bug has been biting and that could hinder their progression from the Sweet 16 odds.
Syracuse should be least affected by their injury, as forward Arinze Onuaku has missed every one of their 2010 March Madness games — he injured his right leg all the way back in the quarters of the Big East tournament.
The Orange will play the Butler Bulldogs in the semifinals of the West Region Thursday night. Online sportsbooks have them favored by 6.5-wagering odds points with the Total at 138.5.
In Syracuse’s last 15 games during the month of March, they are profitable 11-4 against the spread. They also have a very solid “Over” trend going in those games, with a mark of 11 Overs, 3 Unders and a Push.
So far at SPORTSBETTING.com, the sports betting action has been on the underdog in this tilt, with Butler seeing 63% of all the volume wagered on this tilt. The bettors are also hitting the “Over”, with 70% of all the action hoping for 139 points or more to be scored.
If you are looking to bet on who will win the West Region, Syracuse is the odds-on fave to represent the West in the Final Four at odds of -120.
The West Virginia Mountaineers continue their 2010 March Madness journey on Thursday against the Washington Huskies. West Virginia are 4-point wagering odds favorites with an Over/Under of 140.5.
Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, starting point guard Darryl “Truck” Bryant will be out for the remainder of the tournament with a broken right foot.
Joe Mazzulla will take over for Bryant and West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins says that his new starting PG is ready. “[The Bryant injury] hurts our depth a little bit,” Huggins told ESPN. “But Joe is ready. He’s been playing really well for us. He shot the ball really well in practice and in the games. He’ll be fine.”
Over/Under Wagering Odds Alert: In the West Virginia Mountaineers’ last 12 games in March, there have been 3 Overs and 9 Unders, but notable is the fact that they have played six straight “Unders” in their last six. In their last 11 games when favored by 4-points or less, the Mountaineers are merely 3-8 ATS.
The injury news and the impressive showing of the Huskies so far have the betting action on this one very evenly split. Online sportsbooks are reporting close to a 50-50 split on this one. The “Under” is getting 60% of the action as of Thursday morning.
There are no injuries to speak of for the Cornell Big Red and Kentucky Wildcats, who meet Thursday night in the Sweet 16.
The Big Red, who have been one of those pleasant surprises, are 9-point underdogs.
Cornell have been a nice play as an underdog, posting an impressive 14-6 ATS mark the last 20 times they have been the dog in a matchup. And we see they are getting attention from sports bettors, as 55% of all the wagering action on this tilt has come in on the Big Red.
